The Park Haleakala National Park on Maui, Hawaii, was originally protected as Hawaii National Park in 1916 along with other park units. It became Haleakala in 1961 when Hawaii Volcanoes on the Big Island was established as a separate national park. The main feature of the park is the volcanic crater atop Haleakala, though coastal forests are also protected. The park is known for the incredible views and perfect astronomy conditions at the summit.
